Graphite, when transformed into a layer just one carbon atom thick, becomes an electrically conductive layer known as graphene. Graphene has mesmerising possibilities in flexible electronics, energy storage and in new materials with applications in aerospace, tissue engineering and membrane separations. However, graphene layers pack together tightly and the stumbling block has been the incorporation of graphene into a useable, stable form.
EnyGy® is a new company established in 2021 to commercialise an invention by AG8真人平台 Engineering researchers. The invention covers a cost-effective and scalable way to split graphite into microscopic sheets and introduce ions or molecules between the layers to form a stable graphene gel that can then be converted into a number of useful products. EnyGy is now at the forefront of ultracapacitor technology and is devoted to the development of graphene-based technologies to facilitate production of next-generation energy storage solutions.
EnyGy® has exclusive access to two patents from AG8真人平台 University covering the preparation of graphene hydrogel membranes and their applications in energy storage areas. EnyGy® graphene-based electrode films can reduce the size of market leading ultracapacitors whilst maintaining the same energy stored, or increase the energy stored using the same volume or mass. A new class of energy dense ultracapacitors will pave the way for future technology development.
